Play Podcast    REPO! REVIEW: Testify! At the Genetic Opera, Tonight!

If you haven't seen REPO! The Genetic Opera, you REALLY should find the nearest theatrical screening and go! It's coming to DVD on January 20, 2009, after a VERY limited release, but you'll get one heck of an experience in the theatre, since this bad boy may well be the Rocky Horror Picture Show of the 21st Century! If we've reviewed one MUST SEE movie this year, REPO! is it! ~Matt + Nat

Play Podcast    TWILIGHT REVIEW: By a Twilighter and a Twi-Hard

A review that is split down the middle as Nat is a card carrying Twilighter who's in love with the books and invested in the characters but Matt had no preconceptions of Twilight before the movie was released... and in fact had set the bar pretty low based on the ad campaign and our own preview of it. The movie had more than a few surprises in store in both cases!

Play Podcast    STAR TREK TRAILER REVIEW: You Asked For It!

By popular demand, we went ahead and reviewed JJ's new Star Trek Trailer... we're not planning to make a habit of reviewing trailers, but it just so happens that the most revered graphic novel in history AND the most revered sci-fi franchise in history are BOTH coming to the silver screen in ways we never thought possible, and we simply must bow to powers far greater than our own. Having said that, I'm sure what Matt says as a two-decade-strong-yet-highly-critical-Trekkie will sit just as well with some as it won't with others... while Nat just tries to look forward to a Karl Urban/Zachary Quinto film! ~Matt + Nat

Play Podcast    QUANTUM OF SOLACE REVIEW: The First Bond Sequel Ever

It looks to us like Daniel Craig is two for two. Quantum of Solace really did a great job of picking up where Casino Royale left off, keeping the look, the feel, and the Bond consistent. Which means this is a very different kind of Bond film: one that truly functions as a sequel, furthering a common story arc. So how exactly does that work?

Play Podcast    WATCHMEN TRAILER REVIEW: Second Trailer

Matt and Nat chime in on the newest Watchmen Trailer. With a longer cut than the first teaser, this trailer gives a better idea of what Snyder has in store for us!

Play Podcast    MAX PAYNE REVIEW: Pain Indeed.

Marky Mark is 0 for 2 with Max Payne added to the Crappening as another lacklustre film for the poor guy. At least we've got Quantum of Solace as a palate cleanser!

Play Podcast    QUARANTINE REVIEW: Proper Terror this Season!

In an age where the Saw and Hostel type horror film has given up on scares in favour of gore, Quarantine delivers some genuine suspense and terror! This was definitely worth the price of admission! ~Matt + Nat

Play Podcast    DVD Review and Giveaway: The Incredible Hulk

Back in June, Matt was ready to give The Incredible Hulk a pretty mediocre review, but now that the 3-Disc DVD has been released with 45 minutes of deleted scenes, Matt and Nat agree that this is the ONLY way to see the movie. We like it so much, we want to give away a 3-Disc set to a fellow geek on YourGeekNews.com that leaves the best comment comparing Ang Lee's 2003 Hulk with Louis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk! In this 3-Disc set, characters are developed, Edward Norton is given a chance to really act, all kinds of emotional beats are picked up and William Hurt is given some real time to shine. We love it!

Play Podcast    QUANTUM OF SOLACE PREVIEW: Craig’s 007 Encore

Casino Royale made more money in US and around the world than any other Bond film, and nearly twice as much internationally than Brosnan’s best. So making a sequel in this new, re-imagined Double-O-verse is a tall order. Add to that the idea that this film picks up 5-minutes after the previous one, and we’ve got a recipe for a Bond film like no other. Having said that, Bond films are all action packed, globetrotting, womanizing, testosterone-riddled rollercoasters, so messing around with a good formula is a dangerous game to play. One that Director Marc Forster and Daniel Craig are set on playing. At least a little bit.

Play Podcast    QUARANTINE PREVIEW: Zombie POV Fun!

It looks like Cloverfield and Diary of the Dead were only the beginning of our Point-of-View horror movies bringing back the glory days of the Blair Witch Project, because now this remake of a 2007 Spanish indie film [REC], is giving us more jostling, cameraman-loving, visceral reality scares. It's hard to say anything bad about any Zombie movie, since the genre runs the gamut from the brilliantly topical to the terribly stupid, and every film has at least one person out there to love it. Having said that, this seems like a cool premise for a movie on its own, so if we can stomach another ride on the cameraman's back, this could be a good one! ~Matt + Nat

Play Podcast    X-FILES REVIEW: Good. But Does Anyone Care?

It's been 10 years since the last X-Files movie, and more than 5 since it was on TV, but when Mulder and Scully hit the big screen on opening weekend in July 2008, less than one third of the fans from 1998 were there. So does anyone still care?
