The Telstra 'fiasco' Earlier this week, Telstra had its official bid to build Australia´s new multi-billion dollar broadband network disqualified because its tender application was deemed to be incomplete. Now there´s been much focus over the past few days about what the exclusion means for Telstra and its shareholders. But what about Australian consumers? What will it mean for them? The Wild West Media Mogul Kerry Stokes is now firmly in control of the reins at West Australian Newspapers. Mr Stokes, who lives in Perth and who controls the Seven Television Network, became Chairman of the Board last week and this week he´s put the paper´s former editor-in-chief Bob Cronin back in place. The power of photography In a studio in Brisbane they´re putting the final touches on a collection of photographic essays called The Australian Photojournalist. The book may be produced by students, but its contributors are among the world´s finest. Tracking the Red Fox The late journalist Alan Reid spent a lifetime covering politics in Canberra. Reid was a doyen of the Canberra Press Gallery, and despite giving advice to other journalists to simply stick to the facts and not take sides, he was both a poacher and a gamekeeper when it came to politics.His career is now the subject of a biography being put together by Canberra-based historian Stephen Holt and Sydney-based Ross Fitzgerald.
